Our Story
It all started in 1982 with a dream and artist named Bryant who had just won a citywide Best Young Artist award. He opened a little space down by the docks in Pensacola, Florida and called it BryArt. The work came quickly, mostly signs and advertising for small local businesses who needed someone with both creativity and hustle. BryArt was driven and growth was fast, thoughtful, and ahead of its time.
In 1984, Bryant relocated the business outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. The name shifted to Bry Studio, and so did the work. Computers were just starting to enter the picture, and we jumped in early. Print gave way to digital, and the business found its rhythm designing full campaigns, logos, and branding systems for clients who needed more than just flyers and signage they needed a partner who understood how to tell their story.
From day one, the business was built on the concept of being partners, not clients. We were not in business to just doing a task or campaign we formed partnerships where totally transparent and shared our knowledge and insights freely. We took on each new partnership with excitement and growth goals for them, often beyond what they thought possible.
By the late ’80s, the team branched into educational software while also developing digital design work for military groups. We built early-learning games focused on ESL and GED prep, blending utility with creativity for apple and commodore computers that were entering educational centers. At the same time, we started working closely with special operations units. Over the next decade, we designed more than 200+ morale patches, insignias, and program identities, some of which hang today in the Special Operations Museum at Fort Bragg.
When the internet changed the world in the late ’90s, we were already there. We shifted hard into websites, SEO, and digital strategy, eventually retiring the Bry Studio name and relaunching as Grey Wolf Design in 1999. The new name marked a new era, one rooted in digital marketing, real estate branding, and the early science of search. We worked with startups and brick-and-mortar shops.
By 2010, things evolved again. What had started as a side hobby, apparel started to pull real weight. The design work we were doing for clients began blending with ideas we wanted to create for ourselves. Apparel brands started forming slowly at first, then with real focus.
In 2023 we retired our Grey Wolf Design brand and folded everything into a new parent company: Dexter & Company. That’s when the next wave really took shape. Brands like Dexter Threads, Fox Run Hill, MORVN, Rogue Operator, and Stumph Publishing were built from the ground up, each carrying forward a piece of the original studio’s DNA. Some focus on apparel, others on accessories, books, or home décor but they all grew from the same core: good design, strong identity, and a willingness to start something from nothing.
Now we create and sell across platforms like Etsy, Amazon, and our own direct storefronts. The tools and trends have changed a dozen times over, but the mission hasn’t. We still build for people who care. We still believe in thoughtful work. And after all this time, we’re just getting started.
